    MADANG

    Dive Madang's spectacular reefs, wrecks and coral, home of soldier fish, angelfish and snapper, or take a current dive and swim with the barracuda as they hunt for smaller fish. Black coral trees and gorgonian fans beckon the diver to tarry longer under the sea. The "Hole in the Wall" offers a protected lagoon for the novice and the entrance to "Dedo's drop-off" challenges the more experienced diver.

    Tawali Resort is the newest of the dive resorts in PNG and is located just around the corner from Milne Bay. The resort is located near Alotau, just a stone's throw from East Cape. A 90-minute car ride along the Milne Bay coast and through some beautiful forest followed by a 15-minute boat ride will get you from Alotau to the resort.

    Dive rarely visited reefs and experience spellbinding underwater action with superb visibility and prolific fish life aboard this 50' timber vessel. Fully air-conditioned, she can accommodate 6 guests in 3 twin berths, one with private ensuite, the other two cabins using share facilities. Each comfortable cabin has plenty of storage space, music system and two porthole views. Finished in polished teak, the spacious interior lounge/dining area has TV and VCR, a CD and audio-tape stereo, and a book library. A large sundeck provides a great place to relax, taking in the beautiful views and glorious sunsets. A specially designed dive platform allows for easy gearing-up, entry and exit from the water. A typical itinerary takes divers for 4-,7- and 10-day trips along the north coast to sites/islands such as Saidor, Long Island, Crown Island, Hankau Reef, Bagabag Island, Karkar Island and Hansa Bay. Special charters visit the Hermits, Ninigos and Wuvulu. Divers will be enthralled by remote pristine reefs, volcanic seamounts and dramatic drop-offs, resplendent with a wealth of exotic marine life that includes manta rays, turtles, reef sharks, hammerheads, and large schools of barracuda, dogtooth tuna and mackerel. Closer inspection of the diverse reef ecosystem reveals an amazing array of smaller inhabitants such as colourful nudibranches and miniature shrimp.

    STAR DANCER

    Star Dancer

    Diving either the Gazelle Peninsula or Witus and Kimbe Bay, the 120 foot (37 meters) Star Dancer will accommodate 16 divers in 8 comfortable cabins.

    Four or five dives daily among the bountiful marine life is available. Encounter dog tooth tuna, sharks, large schools of pelagics and occasionally bill-fish, dolphin or even a whale.

    LAND BASED EXTENSIONS

    MALOLO PLANTATION LODGE

    The entire north coast becomes another wondrous world of discovery and delight for snorkellers, divers and those interested in marine ecology. Take a traditional canoe ride over crystal waters teeming with fish and blanketed in coral to an uninhabited island for a guided nature walk. Marvel at the plant life and tree species growing on ancient volcanic rocks swept by ocean spray. A short distance by road reveals a traditional village where people still make use of and live in harmony with their natural surroundings. These gentle people guide us through the forest to show how they use the plants and fruits for both medicinal and ceremonial purposes. Watch women as they work dressed in skirts, made as they have been for centuries, from local grasses and coloured from natural dyes of forest plants, berries and earthen clays.

    Malolo Plantation Lodge is accessible by road and is only 45 minutes drive from Madang.

    AMBUA LODGE

    Ambua Lodge is an inspired mixture of local architecture, spectacular views and modest luxury off the beaten track. Located at 7000 feet (2100 meters) in the PNG Southern Highlands, homeland of the Huli clan with their human hair wigs adorned with colourful flowers. Recipient of the 1991 Pacific Asia Travel Association's "Pacific Heritage Award" which sighted Ambua Lodge as "superb example of culturally sensitive and ecological responsible tourism". Ambua Lodge has thirteen species of birds of paradise close by and an amazing array of orchids.
